Weekly Blog Entry – Week 3: Honesty & Business Ethics

This week’s focus on honesty and business ethics really made me think about how integrity plays a role not just in business, but in every aspect of our life. Through the readings and videos, I was able to learn that success without integrity is ultimately empty. One quote that stood out to me was from Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, who said, “Being honest means choosing not to lie, steal, cheat, or deceive in any way.” It sounds simple, but when applied to complex real-world scenarios, honesty often requires courage and commitment and in my opinion a way of showing our mark of discipleship.

 I learned this week that ethical guardrails must be clearly defined before difficult situations arise. In business for example, there will always be pressure to take shortcuts, exaggerate results, or compromise values to achieve success. But those who consistently stand by their moral principles often find lasting peace, trust, and even long-term success. I also loved the case studies and stories shared in the videos, especially the ones where individuals chose integrity over immediate gain. Those examples helped me see how I might respond in similar circumstances.

What resonated most with me was the idea that dishonesty—even in small, seemingly harmless forms—can affect character and credibility over time. Integrity must be practiced daily, even when no one is watching. It’s about becoming the kind of person who can be trusted in both big and small things and at all times without questions.

Moving forward, I’m excited to learn more about how ethical leadership can influence a company culture and how I can prepare myself to lead with values in my current and future rolls. I also look forward to better understand how gospel principles can be applied in professional environments. I believe that by building a foundation of honesty now, I’ll be better equipped to face the moral challenges that may come later.
